    $1,395 for a hitch-mounted bike hauler?

    No.

This unit has some cool design features. I like the integrated front wheel chock and tie down points. I don't like the high price, and am concerned about it being made of aluminum. Steel is a lot heavier of course, but aluminum can really fatigue over time. A friend had his aluminum carrier suddenly break on him.

I have a $200 Bikemaster steel cheapie, it works just fine, hauled my dirt bike from CO to ID with no issues, that trip included a lot of 80 MPH cruising on I-80. It has a "stabilizer" bolt that tightens it up to minimize twisting while in use. Normally for local rides I put the bike in the bed, but for that epic week long trip the bed was full of beer and gear - good times ;)
