Best used bike value out there.
By (I am an Owner) on Jul 12, 2021In 2004 Cycle World Magazine picked it as the best street bike of 04. Over a decade latter they wrote another article "Why the FZ-1 was so damn good". That should tell you more than I can but here goes. The bike handles great. It borrowed it's brakes from the R-1 and they have great feel and power. ... As far as power it's like two bikes in one. It's all day comfortable, stable and mild manored...up untill about 6k rpm. Then you feel it start to morph into something completely different. The bike is rocket. It has a long throttle so you don't get there by accident but it's a run place to play. It will out run 600 supper sports and beat more than a few 1000 super sports in tbe quarter. I have had mine for 3 years and have had to do nothing but regular maintenance in over 10k miles. To buy the equivalent bike new you are looking at 15k. It is a complete no brainier.

Best all around street bike : )
By (I am an Owner) on Jan 25, 2019The 1st Gen Fz1 (fazer) is hands down the best of both street worlds. It is a rocket that can hang with and beat many Gxsr and R1 riders, yet it also has a soft seat and slightly upright riding position that takes the weight off your back and wrists on long rides. They call it an "old man's R1" ... for the reason. I sold my 2005 FZ1 a few years back and bought a 2004 FZ1 in not as good of conditioner, but the price was right. I cleaned it up, changed the windscreen, got new Michellin Pilot tires, new chain, oil and filters and fixed the exhaust. So glad I got another one...the 2nd gen by the way has hard seat and kind of feels like your are on dirt bike. The 1st gen is the way to go. Fun every time. 0 to 100 mph in 5.5 seconds is nice too.

Good ride for an Old dude !
By (I am an Owner) on Apr 18, 2014I have a 2003 but they are the same from 2001 - 2005 so here goes .
Love the seating position = upright but still able to stand the wind blasting my body at 80 mph . Narrow stature allows me to SPLIT lanes easily with very good control .
I have also owned over 20 different bikes and ... this own fits right between Sportbike and Cruiser
as a reference for a new rider .
Be careful when accelerating uphill in the lower gears the front wheel comes up very easily . YES ITS FAST !
Any one want to buy a SPORTSTER 1200 Custom = The FZ1 is the only bike I will ride now !

Almost Perfect
By (I am an Owner) on Jan 01, 2009The bike is all around incredible. It can run like a scalded cat, but it is as happy running around all day at 3000rpm. It is all day comfortable as well. I say ditto to every great thing ever written about this bike. Now for the only bad I have to say about it. If the temp outside is over 80 degrees ... it is like riding a damn toaster. The engine puts out so much heat that it is a miserable ride, very close to unbearable. Why yamaha didn't throw on some cooling fins on this thing to help out the radiator I can not figure. I talked to an FJR owner and he says that his bike has the same problem. I am very disapointed as most of the perfect riding days here are over 80. I have to keep looking down to see if my pants are on fire as that is how it feels. And forget stopping at a light or two. I am trying to sell this perfect bike just because of this one fact. What a shame too as this really is a great bike if not for this one problem. I have not tried the 06 and newer model, but if you are considering buying one I would sure ask around about this flaw first.

fz1
By (I am an Owner) on Oct 23, 2008well i own a 2003 which is the same as the 04' model. i have modified it extensivly but even stock is a very well rounded and powerful bike. as always it comes with yamahas killer reliabilty and the thing just flat rips! it will run with full on sport bikes through the turns but with a lot more ... comfort! overall there is nothing bad to say about this bike other than the seat and suspension is a tad too soft but not too bad to not ride one.

My best bike yet
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 15, 2008I really have nothing to complain about so far as my bike goes. It is my daily rider, tourer, road carver, you name it, it does it. When I was shopping for a new machine I kept reading how it was one of the finest all arounders and it has yet to let me down. It has all the power with tons of comfort ... and gets 40-50 mpg to boot. The only gripe is that I can't get the odometer to go backwards so it can be new again and start all over.
